Paul Murphy Family brings jazz to Weymouth Center
The popular Paul Murphy Family and Friends return to Weymouth Center for the Arts & Humanities on Friday, September 14 for a 7-9 p.m. program filled with popular jazz tunes – some standard, some new. Murphy’s daughter, Anna, will be returning with the group vocalizing American standard ballads and Portuguese Bossas.
Murphy will perform on the saxophone and piano, along with nephew Gary Brown on drums. Also rejoining the concert performers from last year will be Fred Brush on guitar and Dr. Larry Arnold, on bass.
The multi-talented Murphy family is headed now by Paul, who is an ordained minister, music teacher, and professional musician with a strong following in the Sandhills area. His father, the late Bob Murphy, a talented musician and performer in his own right, was at last year’s concert. The highly acclaimed Murphy father and son combination performed professionally at Pinehurst Resort and other venues.
The audience is encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets for seating outdoors. The concert will be held on the meadow lawn adjacent to the East Patio at Weymouth Center, 555 E. Connecticut Avenue in Southern Pines. In case of rain, the performance will be held the following evening, Saturday, September 15.
Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at Weymouth Center, Given Library’s Book Store, located in Olmsted Shopping Center in Pinehurst, at the Country Bookshop in downtown Southern Pines and at the Arts Council of Moore County. The ticket price will remain the same on the day of the event and can be purchased at Weymouth prior to the concert.
