Nonprofit tees up benefit concert

Grammy-award winning singer/songwriter Vince Gill greeted the press before Saturday evening's benefit concert.
On Saturday, May 29, when singer/songwriter Vince Gill took the stage at the Pinehurst Village Arboretum, he introduced the song, “What you give away,” saying it would be a good theme for the reasoning behind being there for the concert, The First Tee of the Sandhills. The lyrics ring true and seemed to strike a chord with those in attendence.
“After you’ve counted everything you saved
Do you ever hit your knees and pray?
You know there’s gonna be a judgment day
So what will you say?
No matter what you make
All that you can take
Is what you give away”
The group’s mission is to provide the youth of the Sandhills area with a learning facility and educational programs that promote character development and the life enhancing values of The First Tee through the game of golf. Over 4,000 tickets were sold for Saturday’s event to benefit the program.
In honor of Family Golf Month in July, we will introduce you to Stuart Taylor, a member of the board of directors of The First Tee of the Sandhills and director of golf at Whispering Woods Golf Club, whose love of golf is a family affair with his wife, daughter and grandson Michael, who participates in The First Tee program. Look for the story in July…
