N.C. Governor’s Conference on Aging Kicks Off

N.C. Governor's Conference on Aging

N.C. Governor's Conference on Aging

Governor Bev Perdue wants all North Carolinians, but particularly seniors to “live a good life” she told 600 participants in the Governor’s Conference on Aging Wednesday.  “We want to make sure we provide services and opportunities (for our seniors) to live a healthy, productive life in North Carolina.”

The conference is focusing on six topics and will present findings from discussions on Access and Choice in services and support, Health and Aging, Lifelong Engagement and Contributions, Homes and Neighborhoods, Economics of Aging and Safe Communities.  The results will be reviewed by the governor and become part of state policy in these areas.

Governor Perdue’s commitment to aging issues is well known.  She asked the conference attendees for “creative solutions” as she prepares a “roadmap for the next 10 years” for policies and services for the aging.  She asked that recommendations be “realistic and doable.”

Prior to the conference, discussions were held around the state on each of the six topics.  Reports from those discussions are forming the basis for consensus on a final report to the governor.
