We come in all shapes and sizes.

We come in different colors.

We have different views and temperaments

We learn on the job.

We are with you from cradle to grave.

We feed and clothe you.

We laugh at your antics. Sometimes we have to frown.

We take care of bumps, bruises and broken hearts.

We hope and pray that nothing more serious happens to you.

We are proud of you most of the time. Other times, we may be embarrassed.

We sing to you, read to you, play games with you.

We are chauffeurs, nurses, doctors, psychologists, mediators and consultants.

We are your moral compass.

We can be disciplinarians, but always “for your own good.”

We are your friend, companion, cheerleader.

We learn to understand sports so we can cheer at the right times, never yell at the coaches, referees, other players and their parents.

We try not to embarrass with our enthusiasm but sometimes get carried away, knowing that, no matter what, you have an angel on your shoulder who really loves you.

We are the source of all knowledge until you discover television and computers.

We are grateful for your help with TV remotes, cell phones and computers, so we can appear somewhat ‘hip’ in this new age.

We have big shoulders to cry or lean on.

We occasionally have blinders and may miss something important. If you have to, take the blinders off for us.

We know that some of us weren’t cut out for this job and you may suffer sometimes. Find someone with a warm heart to fill in the gaps.

We read to you and treasure those precious moments laughing at “The Cat in the Hat.”

We teach you to drive, to cook, to do laundry, to clean your room and other basics of life. We know you won’t always be living in the same house as us so we try to get you ready to leave the nest.

We leave the ‘Welcome’ sign out for you to come home at any time, for any reason.

We hope that as we age you’ll remember some of the things we need.

We love you to the end of the earth and back.

We are your Mothers and Grandmothers.
